Our Seed Vessels, created in collaboration with the historic The Gem Palace, meditates on how we, as a migrating species, have carried seeds with us to new lands. Hidden away in pockets, sewn into clothing, woven into hair, seeds have been safeguarded despite all odds. Seeds are our ancestral heritage, connecting us to land and history, and the creativity and resilience of those who have come before us.
For nine generations, the Kasliwal family of The Gem Palace has upheld centuries-old traditions of Indian jewelry-making, mastering techniques like Kundan and Meenakari. Once royal jewelers to Mughal and Jaipur courts, their workshop still operates on MI Road, employing descendants of original craftsmen. With pieces displayed in museums around the world, The Gem Palace is renowned for its timeless design, flawless craftsmanship, and enduring legacy—where jewelry outlasts generations.
The jewelry in this small capsule, in buttery 22kt and 18kt gold, features a series of seed charms and amulets, styles with hidden chambers to hide away and store seeds. Each piece in this collection is crafted by hand using traditional metalwork techniques.
